What's The Difference Between Coaching And Therapy?

Is there any difference between Coaching and Therapy? It is often a doubt that most of us have. Many of us may have attended life coaching or undergone life coaching training without knowing the difference between therapy and coaching. Some of us might even wonder whether there is any difference at all. Well, there are differences, even if they seem to serve the purpose. It is only to us uninformed that it seems to serve the same purpose actually they are two different things meant for different purposes.
Therapy is primarily meant for looking back to establish the route cause of problems. Coaching on the other hand is meant for personal evolution. A therapist focuses on helping clients overcome past problems. These problems are so disruptive that they seem to get in the way of functioning normally. These problems are generally caused by some incidents in the past. Therapists work with the client to resolve these problems by talking about the events in the past. A life coach on the other hand sets goal for the client and generally helps him move forward. He or she helps you in designing your life the way you want it to be. The life coach plays a supporting role and helps you in reaching your goal. These goals can be career oriented, business oriented or any other goal. They can be even goals for health.
A therapist is a qualified person i.e. a therapist requires a certificate to practice. They have to undergo intensive theoretical and practical sessions before they can venture out on their own. A life coach need not have any educational qualifications but there are certification programs available for them as well. It is just that it is not yet required by law for them to do so. A therapist and the client have to reside in the same place whereas for a life coach the client need not be in the same geographical location.

AAA said it expects about 34.8 million Americans to travel at least 50 miles over the holiday weekend. That?s an extra 500,000 drivers expected on the road between May 24 and May 28, up 1.2 percent over last year.

The airport's $415.5 million worth of bonds were downgraded to "A" from "A+" mostly due to Delta Air Lines Inc.'s service decline at Memphis International Airport. Local passenger traffic is projected to drop below 4 million, which translates into a more than 30 percent enplanement loss from the peak levels in 2008, according to Fitch.

Ritz questions the math on feasibility studies conducted for the various suburbs and says it could be off by as much as $1 million. Southern Educational Strategies, a school consulting firm, conducted all the surveys for six different municipalities around Memphis.

</div>Big Star member, Memphis financial planner Steve Rhea dies<img src='http://assets.bizjournals.com/memphis/blog/morning_call/Morning%20Call%20sun%20Memphis*100.jpg?v=1'>Steve Rhea, a rock 'n roll drummer who went on to a successful career as a Memphis banker and financial planner, died Wednesday, The Commercial Appeal reports. He was 62 and had been diagnosed with cancer last year.
Rhea was a drummer in the legendary Memphis band Big Star, as well as several of the group's precursor bands. He also worked for Ardent Records before leaving the scene in 1970 to pursue a degree at Southern Methodist University. He was replaced in Big Star by drummer Jody Stephens.

The internet makes it easier for the life coach to stay connected with the client. A relationship between a therapist and the customer is almost like the traditional doctor – patient relationship. The therapy sessions are held at a measured pace. It can take months and even years sometimes for a person to be completely healed. This is not the problem of therapy but the necessity of therapy. The life coach on the other hand is more like a mentor. Life coaching courses are held at a rapid pace. They usually stick to a schedule. Again this is necessary for coaching as it is a forward looking occupation. The discussions between a client and a therapist are usually one sided. In fact, it is even wrong to say that they discuss, it is more like the client speaks and the therapist listens. It is a monologue with the client speaking. Communication is a two way business for life coaching. It works on discussions. The more the client opens, the better way the life coach can help the client. A client goes to a therapist because he has unresolved issues. He may want to solve his problems with the help of the therapist. Sometimes, the client meets the therapist not because he or she wants to but due to pressure from family, peers or friends. This is why therapy sessions can hurt a client emotionally. This is necessary for the healing process to take place. In essence the process of therapy is all about resolving your past. It is all about letting the past go. It nurtures and strengthens a person’s life. A client goes for life coaching because he wants to go or his company sends him. This is done so as to plan for a better future. It creates more excitement than fear in the customer. A better future is not something to be afraid of. It is all about creating a future. This is a catalyst for change; change for the better. The functions of therapy and coaching might seem to overlap but in actuality they are different pursuits. Sentences handed down in Memorial Healthcare bribery case
Four people who were convicted of defrauding the Memorial Healthcare System in a bribery scheme were sentenced to prison by U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra on Friday.
Thomas Kennedy, of Davie, was sentenced to 42 months in prison. Richard Cohen, of Wellington, and Paul Chaiet, a CPA, were each sentenced to 18 months in prison. Thomas Pacchioli was sentenced to three years of probation and 180 days of home confinement. Swire releases more detailed Brickell CitiCentre rendering

Miami's Camillus House completes first phase of new facility

Florida's jobless rate drops to lowest since early 2009

Facebook shares fall flat on IPO debut

Judge: Mastro creditor Hazelrigg must redo bankruptcy papers
U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Timothy Dore ruled against Bellevue businessman Tom Hazelrigg III Friday morning, saying Hazelrigg could not refuse to answer questions about his finances in his involuntary bankruptcy by making a blanket assertion of his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.

ITC sides with Microsoft in Motorola patent infringement case
Motorola will have to modify its Android smartphones or pay Microsoft a licensing fee if it wants to continue selling them in the United States.
After postponing its decision several times, the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled Friday that Motorola?s Android phones violate a Microsoft patent, and ordered an import ban for the offending devices.

For tech companies, patents can be cash cows, huge legal expense

Facebook jumps 12% on IPO debut, then slips

The stock (NASDAQ:FB) jumped 12 percent in the opening minutes of trading on Friday before slipping back from $43 to close to the $38 price IPO investors paid on Thursday. It rebounded to more than $41 after that.
The Wall Street Journal cited an unnamed source who said that the underwriters on the deal stepped in to prevent it from dropping below the $38 a share price that was set for initial investors on Thursday.

Foreclosures fall in Washington state, West
A new report says foreclosures are declining nationally, particularly in the West.
According to RealtyTrac, a California-based foreclosure listing service, foreclosure filings nationwide in April hit their lowest monthly total since July 2007, and foreclosure activity declined sharply in several Western states.
Foreclosure activity nationwide was down 14 percent in April from April of 2011, with one in every 698 U.S. residences having a foreclosure filing during the month.
