Do I need a business license, and what is my liability since I am not providing therapy of any kind?
It’s not a question of whether or not your enterprise is for profit or non-profit, it’s the issue of whether or not the base of operations is zoned for commercial use. If not, you cannot operate a commercial enterprise on residential zoned property. And that includes operating a business within an apartment complex. Where do your clients park their cars? What’s the foot traffic into and out of your so-called residential business? And a commercial business license does not authorize misuse of otherwise residential property.
